Imagine this:  a huge room with hundreds of excited people dressed for a blacktie gala dinner to celebrate the Year of the Dog and confronted by lions and exotic dancers.  Wow!

The club’s Annual signature fundraising event, the Chinese New Year Charity Dinner at Skycity Convention Centre on Saturday 3 March 2018.

This year we are supporting Ronald McDonald House - to assist the families with children from all over South Pacific, that call Ronald McDonald House their Home and other Rotary Projects.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®)  New Zealand supports families when their child is in a hospital away from home.

RMHC New Zealand  programmes take care of the practical things in life so families can focus on their child staying in a hospital away from home.

Each year RMHC offers 3,700 families across New Zealand and the Pacific Islands accommodation and support free of charge. This helps to relieve stresses like paying for a place to sleep near the hospital, organising family meals and needing a friendly ear to listen on tough days.

Simply, RMHC gives families with a hospitalised child what they need most.

More than 400 guests attended the event out of which 70% were non-Rotarians, with major sponsors including SKYCITY -Air New Zealand- Westpac Bank- Harold Thomas Trust – Milano Cars-BMW – Glaciers Investment, along with many local businesses donating prizes and buying tickets. Among the Rotarians attending wasd Rotary International President Ian Riseley and his wife (PDG) Juliet who are pictured close up and initmate with a Dragon visiting their table.

Top auction items on the night included a pair of boxing gloves signed by Joseph Parker, a golf ball signed by New Zealand's previous Prime Minister John Key, international flights and fabulous holiday packages.  In addition to the substantial benefits of just having the diversity and numbers of people join together in the celebration itself where Rotary gained significant acknowledgement, the evening raised approximately $50,000 ... a fantastic achievement
