On a cool but dry afternoon, volunteers from Council, Community Boards, local residents and the Ellerslie Sunrise Rotary turned out with spades, forks, buckets, wheel-barrows, gloves and a fun sense of humor to work together on the environmental planting programme.

The Waiatarua Reserve is being gradually transformed back to become a natural wonderland of native trees & shrubs  providing  food for birds and insects for many years to come.
Digging the holes and planting small shrubs and finishing it off with mulch was very rewarding.  Lots of dogs were there as well with their owners to help.  $2,000 for plants was donated by the Ellerslie Sunrise Rotary for this environmental project and 8 Club members were there to help on the day.  This is but one example of the many environmental projects Rotary clubs get involved in.
