Selling Rotary Puddings at a public Market
We found a new start up market in Royal Oak that was not charging any fees.
The idea was put forward at a Rotary meeting and volunteers came forward.
We needed people to man and get the stand ready:
*Updated signage
*Lend a table
*Provide a Gazebo and Sand bags
*Supply the Puddings
*Provide a cash float
*Look into getting an eftpos system to receive payment
*Comply with COVID requirements e.g. QR Code and Hand sanatiser
*Set up on the day and Sell the Puddings including free samples, and bank the money
*Store the Gazebo for future events after
We applied to have a stand. And went to a meeting with the Market Organisers
We had two main objectives:
*Sell Christmas Puddings as a fundraiser
*Raise the profile of Rotary in the community.
Outcomes: We went to the same market on two consecutive months before Christmas 2020. At the
first market we sold about 25 puddings. At the second market we sold under 10 puddings. It was
thought that because many of the same people were coming to the market they had already
purchased at the first market. The Market took place on Saturday morning at the carpark of Royal
Oak Baptist Church, this is near the Royal Oak Shops, a busy suburb of Auckland. 14 November 2020
and 12 December 2020. Our Rotary vendors wore Rotary shirts. We were not able to organize
eftpos payment facilities and we missed out on a few sales because of this. The weather was
unusually warm for November at the first market and contributed to a good turn out at the market.
The sale of 25 puddings was deemed worth putting the Market stand together. With the number of
puddings so low at the second market it was not considered a success. We had organized for some
mobility dogs to come so people could see where the money was going to but they never turned up.
