A cluster of Rotary clubs in Auckland Inner Suburb raised a combined total of NZD15,000 to purchase a Hoist Machine and three wheelchairs for Auckland’s Starship Children’s Hospital.

The Rotary Club of Auckland East, in conjunction with the Rotary Clubs of Auckland Harbourside, Mt Eden, Penrose, Remuera and St Johns held a very successful Bottle Auction at the Good George, Mission Bay on 9 October 2023.

With the assistance of DGE Vidya Nand as auctioneer and PDG Gary Langford as MC, 19 lots were sold in the Live Auction and another 32 lots were sold in the Silent Auction.

The bottles sold were mainly wines, but also olive oils, spirits and liqueurs.  The bottles had all been donated by Rotarians and their contacts.   A number of the bottles sold in the Live Auction had been signed by prominent politicians from a variety of political parties.  With the country’s General Election being held on Saturday 14 October 2023, this was very relevant and added interest to the auction.

All bottles were sold with the exception of a bottle of Penfolds Grange, which failed to meet the reserve of $1,250.  There was a full house of 72 Rotarians from the six Rotary clubs, and their guests.
As a result of the auction success, plus some generous donations and a grant from a Rotary charity, the Rotary Club of Auckland East were able to achieve their goal of NZD$15,000.

These funds will enable the hospital to purchase a hoist machine and three wheelchairs for children.  A hoist machine assists staff to move children with disabilities or limited mobility for showering and treatment.

A cheque will be presented to the hospital later this month.
