Applications for 2017 event are now open.

The challenge was to buy an old car ( a Banger) for under $1000, and drive it with a group of like minded people from Auckland to Bluff. The route was to be "Roads Less Travelled" and would take 11 days. All entrants had to pay a registration fee, plus get sponsorship for their banger. Sponsorship varied between a "Gold" sponsor where the individuals car would carry the sponsor's logo to a Platinum sponsorship, where all cars would have the sponsor's logo. Entrants were also encouraged to raise additional donations with Givealittle being one way of collecting donations.

At Bluff the cars were all auctioned off, at no charge, by William Todd (2011) Ltd with HMB Rotary receiving all the proceeds. The masthead charities were Alzheimers MZ and The Hopeworks Foundation.

Points are awarded for such things as:Country of Origin: Zero points for Japanese, 150 points for Russian and 100 points for European
Ther were 9 entrants this year with cars including a Jaguar XJ6, 2 BMW's, an old Fiat and a 315,000km Mitsubishi Lancer ( Sir Lancelot). All bangers made the trip with no need to call on the AA who had donated their Roadside Assist Breakdown package, nor claim on Protecta Insurance who provided Third Party Insurance for all the Bangers.

Details for the 2016 event and next year's 2017 are on our web page www.bangerstobluff.co.nz. There has already been quite a bit of interest in the 2017 event which is limited to 20 Bangers.
