News from Margaret Lesjak of the Rotary Club of Apia, Western Samoa...Climate Change  and the donation of medical equipment to Savai'i, Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital.
 
 

 

Roxanne El-Hady, the 2016 UK Young Scientist of theYear visited Samoa spoke to the Club and also talked to primary and secondary schools and the University of Samoa about climate change. Her winning project looked at sediment cores from a lake in South Wales to detect climate change between 8,000 and 16,000 years ago). She also encouraged more girls to continue with science and maths studies. Her grandfather, also in the picture, was also an entertaining speaker.

 

As well there’s a photo of medical equipment for the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital in Tuasivi on the island of Savai’i. The hospital has been presented with a 20ft container full of donated medical supplies with an estimated value of over A$120,000 (T$228,000). The donation came from Queensland Rotary Clubs and RAWCS. Present is then Club President Tony Callaghan and Health Minister Tuitama Dr Talaleilei Tuitama.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Apia Rotary Club assisted in the storage, transportation and presentation of the equipment.
