RYPEN 2018 was held this year at Sir Peter Blake Marine Education Centre (MERC) Long Bay. It was held from 23 to 25 March 2018.

We had 68 students from Year 11 to Year 12 attended the Camp. There were 28 male students and 40 female students from 24 schools from as far as Onewhero High School through to Waiheke High School. The students were sponsored by 18 clubs in our District and there 6 members from our Club spent the weekend with the students.

We were lucky to have members from Rotaract Club Auckland be part of the weekend team leaders and RYLA 2015 awardee, Les Richards was also part of the team leaders for the weekend.

The weather on Friday evening and Saturday weren’t in our favour and the water activities chosen for the day, had to be cancelled and the students had landbased activities instead.
Part of the program for the weekend, included keynote speakers and we were fortunate to have Simon O’Connor, Lee Warn and Nick Tuatasi share their stories and provoke some thoughtful questions to the students.
Isabella’s homemade cookies were a hit with the students for supper and was enjoyed by us all.
Big thank you to the following members of Rotary Club of St Johns, Rotary Club of Papakura, Rotary Club of Downtown Auckland and Rotaract Auckland for making RYPEN 2018 a wonderful experience for the students:-
Mark Hillman, Kevin Kevany, Peter Walsh, Iain Smith, Trish Gerrard, Hilary Prior, Isabella Tedcastle, Aubrey Richardson-Jones, Robyn Ingram, Michelle Forman, Megan Gallagher, Blair Peach, Ozgun Sumbuloglu, Les Richards, Mehak Janjua, Mariam Malak and George Wilson and members from Rotary Club of Papakura and District Youth Chair, Peter Ross.
